ABOUT Iona
My most recent collection was painted in my Newlyn studio over May and June, and (as ever) was a direct response to the goings on in my life at that time. Like Martha (Holmes) states; 'your work is a constant self portrait'. This is absolutely true. The weather was hot off and on, and we enjoyed family beach days, garden drinks with friends, some alone quiet time to rest and reflect, and of course many, many raucous family meals around our very long kitchen table. What I love so much about painting a collection like this is that so many moments in any one day become paintings, and I am restless until I am able to document them in paint. This collection was so much fun to paint as I have recently been studying the work of Hockney and Heron, which have influenced not only these works, but also my palette and brushstrokes. The collection has felt effortless and freeing and I could have quite easily continued as each day invites me to paint new works.
